About the Artist
Emma Jae Irsfeld is a Minneapolis based artist whose work explores the connection between emotion, the human form, and the natural world.
Emma has been drawing for as long as she can remember, always using art as a creative outlet. While she studied Fashion Design in college, encouragement from friends and family in recent years inspired her to begin sharing and selling her artwork.
Her work is largely inspired by emotion and a deep love of nature. Emma’s figure pieces explore the internal human experience, using skeletal structures and organic forms to express feelings that can be difficult to put into words. The figures are intentionally faceless, allowing viewers to focus on what is happening within rather than who the person is.
Alongside these works, Emma creates wildlife studies that celebrate the beauty of the natural world. While her figure pieces look inward, her wildlife drawings focus on the intricate details found in animals and nature.
Working primarily with ink, watercolor, and colored pencil, Emma approaches each piece with a base idea and allows it to evolve naturally as she works. Though her artwork comes from a deeply personal place, her hope is that viewers bring their own experiences to the work and find meaning in it for themselves.
At the end of the day, Emma simply hopes that when someone brings one of her pieces into their home, it makes them feel something.
